Flirting with Gravity #1: Above Clouds – Creative Thinking Above the Clouds

Flirting with Gravity #1: Above Clouds – Creative Thinking Above the Clouds will take place from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM on June 6, 2026, at the Ho Guom Theatre (Hanoi), featuring senior leaders from two leading global organizations: Thornton Tomasetti (Chicago office, USA) and Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) (London office).

From towers exceeding 1,000 meters to futuristic cities shaping the global skyline, Above Clouds opens a rare dialogue on how humanity continuously breaks through previously considered “impossible” boundaries through architecture, engineering, technology, and the aspiration to reach higher above the clouds. Architecture Magazine, as the media sponsor, is pleased to present this special dialogue to our readers!

Driven by humanity’s aspiration to reach the sky, buildings around the world are constantly rising higher and setting new records. Beginning in Chicago (USA) in the late 19th century, supertall buildings now appear in dozens of cities across many countries, most notably in Asia and the Middle East. In 2028, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) will have the Jeddah Tower, a record-breaking building over 1000 meters tall. Each supertall building reflects a new stage of urban development, engineering, materials, technology, and the ambition of minds constantly striving to overcome limitations that their own era considers impossible.

Flirting with Gravity creates a space for direct dialogue with the talented minds behind ambitious, seemingly impossible projects – not just megacities or supertall buildings, but also strategic infrastructure projects crucial to each city or nation (such as sea bridges, international airports, cultural and artistic centers, or public complexes). These are not just stories about mega-projects, but stories about humanity’s aspiration to transcend limitations.

Speaker: John Peronto – CEO of Thornton Tomasetti

Speaker Mustafa Chehabeddine – Senior Leader involved in numerous international mega-tower and urban development projects at KPF.
